Jens, surely a process needs to be initiated by a specific and meaningful need - a problem to be solved, a question to be answered, a gap to be filled, etc.? Specific for process design and meaningful to ensure optimality, not just feasibility.
Hello Amit - my usage of "process" may be broader than what you are thinking. I think of processes as the different ways things get done. All work in organizations is done by processes. Perhaps those processes change constantly. Perhaps they are messy, and everyone does their own unique process without any sort of standardization. But nonetheless, everything can be considered as a process. All data is the result of a process. Consequently, any problem to be solved involves some change in a process, whether it is to change an existing one, implement a new one as a replacement, or something else. So by recommending you consider the process, I'm suggesting that it is equivalent to saying you must consider the problem you are trying to solve or the questions you are trying to answer about a process. Great question and thought!
